United Way Delhi conferred with Special Achievement Award

United Way Delhi’s School Support Program, is a comprehensive program initiated to provide substantial help to government schools so that they can improve on their existing conditions. Currently we are working in different SDMC Schools located in Delhi. The thrust of the program is to develop better infrastructure, sanitation, and learning facilities for the students, thus creating a better learning environment for them.
UTC India’s marqueecommunity development initiative, Project Pehal, has been conferred with three coveted CSR awardsin Q1 CY15.
The awards recognize and acknowledge the impact Pehal initiatives have made in the areas of health, sanitation, education, financial inclusion and skill development for a community of about 10,000 underprivileged migrant labourers living across slum clusters in Chakarpur village in Gurgaon, India.
Some noteworthy successes Project Pehal achieved in just over a year include -mainstreaming about 150 young school drop-outs back into regular schools; setting up a medical clinic benefitting about 4000 people who otherwise had no access to any local hospital;constructing community toilets and bathing shelters benefitting more than 3500 people while improving overall sanitation of the community andfacilitating extensive skill development programs and employment opportunities.
The first award the project received was the ABP Global CSR Excellence & Leadership Award. The ceremony held on Feb 17, 2015 in Mumbai honored Project Pehal in the community development category
Next wasThe Golden Globe TigersAward held in Kuala Lumpur on March 25, 2015where Project Pehal was awarded for excellence and leadership in corporate social responsibility, again, in the community development category. The Golden Globe Tigers awards are extremely reputed as they recognize excellence in marketing, branding CSR & social innovation, education and academics across the globe.
And finally, India CSR, the leading business network for Corporate Sustainability & Responsibility which recognizes the most admired and outstanding CSR initiatives and ventures in India selected Project Pehal as the Best Community Development Programme case study at theAnnual IndiaCSR Awards. The esteemed organization which supports practitioners and organizations in building responsible and sustainable businesses in India presented the award to UTC India on April 6 in New Delhi.
Speaking on the occasion, Palash Roy Chowdhury, Chair – UTC India CSR Council said, “We are honored that our signature program has been widely recognized as one of the leading community development initiatives in the country. It is a testament to the impact that UTC associates and implementing partners, United Way of Delhi and Humana are having on the community.”
Project Pehal has been able to demonstrate a replicable and scalable model to address the problems of urban slum clusters across the country.
The significant impact Project Pehal has had on the community of underprivileged migrants coupled with dedicated volunteering efforts of UTC employees has been instrumental in UTC Indiareceiving these prestigious accolades.These awards provide further impetus for the project to scale new heights.
